New QC/QA monitoring system for paraxylene purity

New QC/QA monitoring system for paraxylene purity

Published: 9/25/2007 2:58:00 PM

AppliTek's Application department has launched today its field-proven paraxylene purity monitoring system. In paraxylene production it is highly important to obtain purities above 99.7%.

Possible impurities that can be detected with this operator-friendly system are a/o n-xylene, o-xylene, ethylbenzene, ...

The analysis is done in 20 seconds, where other techniques need about 15 mintues.

Paraxylene is primarily used as a basic raw material in the manufacture of terephthalic acid (TPA), purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and dimethyl-terephthalate (DMT). TPA, PTA and DMT are used to manufacture polyethylene terephthalate (PET) saturated polyester polymers. Polyesters are used to produce fibers and films. PET bottles are widely used for carbonated beverages because of good carbon dioxide barrier properties. In addition, they are light-weight, shatter-resistant and possess high tensile strength.
