Yesterday October 6, 2010 the 6th EU-China Business Summit took place in Brussels, organized by a/o the Federation of Belgian Enterprises (VBO/FEB)  to discuss the strategic partnership and global matters between the European Union, represented by EU leaders Mr. Barosso and Mr. Van Rompuy, and the People’s Republic, represented by Chinese Premier Mr. Jiabao. With its experience in environmental monitoring projects, AppliTek's CEO attended the summit regarding topics related to “green” and renewable energy.

Despite some current issues on currency policy, both sides agreed that joint policies are needed to achieve sustainable energy savings while fostering green and low carbon development. “The Chinese Leadership is”, according to AppliTek CEO Mr. Laurier, “with the country in its steep development, absolutely second to none, certainly accelerated by implementing European green technology.

Fact is that around 40% of all transfers to China originate in the EU and green SMEs are being offered a win-win solution of combining domestic leading-edge technology with competitive manufacturing and China’s ever growing market. With AppliTek’s growing presence in China, AppliTek is pleased to witness that the “green” philosophy of the Chinese Presidency is indeed developing in the world’s largest society, balancing economy with ecology.

Business leaders deplored the lack of progress at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December 2009.  They underlined that the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is a key instrument to reduce global greenhouse. The 6th EU-China Business Summit stressed that a coherent climate policy would also stimulate greater innovation in clean technology and a cleaner environment.  They stressed that the EU and China should intensify their cooperation on the development of clean and energy efficient technologies. The European and Chinese businesses concluded the 6th EU-China Business Summit by reiterating their strong interest in a close EU-China economic and trade partnership.

The EU-China dialogues and bilateral discussions should address bilateral trade and investment issues and foster strategic discussions and cooperation on key economic areas for the EU-China relationship.

The 7th EU-China Business Summit will take place in China in 2011.
