During an academic symposium in Antwerp, Belgium, on April 28, 2011, AppliTek's Vice Chairman, David Laurier has given a lecture about "Sustainability as an opportunity for Belgian SME's". Laurier's lecture was partly inspired by Dr. Chris Laszlo's, e.a. latest book "Embedded Sustainability" published on April 28, 2011.
The lecture was followed by a lecture by the Federal Minister of Economy of Belgium, HE Minister Van Quickenborne, who talked about the necessary liaison & interaction between innovation & sustainability. Minister Van Quickenborne was himself selected as “Young Global Leader” by the World Economic Forum in 2010.
Both the Minister and Laurier agreed that disruptive and radical innovation is the only way forward to help solving the huge challenges and issues (like poverty, water/food scarcity, climate debate, ...) the world is now facing.
The symposium was organized by Lessius University College that inducted Laurier in the gallery of Alumni of the year. Laurier graduated in 1994 as a M.A. in Economics.
