E-Z-RAMAN® On-line Raman Analyzer System
Oil & Gas
Background Raman spectrometry is based on the Raman scattering of atoms or molecules, which is directly related to the chemical properties of the sample or sample components. It is a powerful tool analyzing a large set of critical parameters in oil & gas applications. Whilst techniques such as Near infrared (NIR) remain popular in e.g. downstream applications, it is hard to ignore the benefits and possibilities for process applications with this method, encouraged by the design of precise optics and powerful lasers:
- No sample pretreatment required for samples containing water
- No additional chemicals required
- Short analysis times. Typically 30 s to 3 minutes (GC ~ 11 to 15 minutes)
- Excellent spectral resolution
- Remote analysis via fiber-optics (> 200 meters of fibers)
- Use directly in-line
- Multiplex capabilities (up to 18 channels/streams)

Upstream applications
On-line monitoring of sulphate in waterflood injection
Waterflood injection operations for offshore oil production can benefit from low-sulphate (SO4) water. Removal of sulphate from the injected seawater prevents barium sulphate scaling that creates a loss of reservoir flow, and also eliminates the source of sulfur that is converted to hydrogen sulfide causing wells to turn sour.
Refinery applications
