Many of the concentrated wastewaters typical of many industrial processes today can be tackled by means of anaerobic digestion (AD), and if necessary with a post-aerobic treatment. Effluents from pharmaceutical manufacturing operations typcially contain several organic solvents, acids, bases, colorants and other organic compounds which are treated by aerobic processes. Research has lead to the application of AD to drug-based effluents in order to degrade the toxic character of the effluent.
AppliTek developed the AnaSense® specifically for operaters of mid to large-scale digesters (fermentors), regardless of type of digester or technology. It is an on-line analyzer with a specific sampling system designed for continuous measurements on the critical parameters of anaerobic digestion: volatile fatty acids (VFA), alkalinity and pH. Knowing these enables the operator to fully control the digester and enhance its efficiency.
